Pavé Engagement Rings
Tiny diamonds set into the band itself. Continuous sparkle from every angle without overwhelming the centre stone.

What is a pavé engagement ring?
A pavé ring has tiny diamonds (typically 1–1.5mm each) set into the band using small prongs or beads of metal that hold each stone in place. The result is a band that sparkles continuously, catching light from every direction as the hand moves.
The diamonds can run all the way around the band (full eternity pavé) or just along the top half (half pavé). Half pavé is more practical — it’s easier to resize, more comfortable against adjacent fingers, and the hidden underside doesn’t scratch.
Pavé adds relatively little to the total cost of a ring because the individual stones are very small and inexpensive. The main cost is the labour — setting dozens of tiny stones precisely requires skilled craftsmanship.
Best settings
Pavé comes in several variations, each with different levels of sparkle and practicality.

French pavé
Refined & luminousSmall V-shaped notches are cut into the metal between each stone, allowing more light to enter from the sides. This creates a brighter, more open look compared to standard pavé. The most desirable pavé technique.
Best for: Maximum sparkle, any centre stone

Micro-pavé
Delicate & seamlessUses stones under 1mm in diameter, set extremely close together for an almost continuous sheet of sparkle. The most delicate and detailed version. Requires exceptional setting skills.
Best for: Delicate hands, understated glamour

Cathedral pavé
Grand & architecturalPavé diamonds run along the arched supports (cathedral shoulders) that lift the centre stone. Adds sparkle to the side profile and creates a grand, elevated look.
Best for: Round and oval centres, elegant aesthetic

Full eternity pavé
All-out sparkleDiamonds run all the way around the band with no gap. Maximum sparkle but cannot be easily resized and may be less comfortable. Best suited as a style choice when you’re confident about ring size.
Best for: Those who prioritise sparkle over practicality

Insider tips
Get your ring size right the first time. Pavé rings are significantly harder to resize than plain bands. Half pavé is easier than full eternity, but neither is straightforward. Most UK jewellers recommend a professional fitting rather than an at-home ring sizer for pavé.
Ask about the warranty on pavé stones. Reputable jewellers will replace lost pavé stones free for at least the first year. Some offer lifetime stone-loss warranties. This matters because it’s a question of when, not if, you’ll need a replacement.
Have your pavé ring checked annually. A jeweller can spot loose stones before they fall out. Most UK jewellers offer free inspection and tightening as part of their aftercare service.
If you’re choosing between half pavé and full eternity, go half. You get 90% of the visual effect with none of the resizing headaches. The underside of the band is against your finger anyway — nobody sees it.
